WWOOF & HelpX..........

WWOOF ( World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms)  is an organization which puts volunteers in touch with host farms who need help with Agricultural, Horticultural or Stock management work.  The host "repays" the volunteer with free accommodation and meals.  Individual hosts offer varying agreements so it is best to check with each one.  For more information go to www.WWOOF.org.uk

HelpX ( Help Exchange) is a similar organization which has similar arrangements but is less strictly linked to organic holdings.  You can find out more at www.helpx.net

Ravenstar is a host for both WWOOF & HelpX and we welcome volunteers throughout the spring, summer and early autumn.  The accommodation we offer is a 4 berth caravan beside our house which is suitable for 1 or 2 people at a time.  It offers mains electricity, kettle, fridge and toaster and, as we are also a B&B, we encourage volunteers to prepare their own breakfast ( food supplied ).  Other meals are shared with us and volunteers can use toilet and shower facilities in the house.  We can supply bedding and towels.

In return we ask for 6 hours work a day on the croft or in the gardens for 5 days out of 7 each week.  Stays of less than a week are not practical here due to the travelling time to get here.

We currently have a kitchen and market garden, field crops of potatoes and swedes and also cattle, sheep, milking goats, pigs, hens and ducks.  As you can guess we eat well!
