Blacksmithing Courses in the Outer Hebrides

Dave is able to offer one to one tuition in Blacksmithing Skills from Ravenstar Forge on the Isle of Lewis. Courses are available for 1 or 2 days duration and will involve the making of an item or items which include the use of the main forging skills.

Working with a live Coke powered Forge you will cover the basic rules of safety, Fire control, Tools of the Trade, Pointing, Setting, Drawing down, Upsetting, Twisting and finishing.  All fuel and materials are supplied as are Hearing protectors and Safety glasses. You will, of course, take home your finished article at the end of your course.

Sports Hall Coll

If you like a more active pursuit then you may like to visit Sports hall in Coll which provides a badminton court, football pitch and golf driving range.

And just across the road is the beautiful sandy beaches of Coll for those that like a sedate walk browsing the flora and fauna.


There are other sports centres on the island, Lewis Sports Centre in Stornoway has a swimming pool, badminton and squash court, climbing wal, aqua fit, fitness suite, dance studio, soft play running track and café.

Ness Sports Centre is at the northern tip of lewis and has a tenpin bowling alley, badminton court, fitness suite, sauna and a swimming pool next door in the school.
There is an excellent childrens playground just a few yards down the road which is adjoined to beautiful stretches of sandy beaches.

In Back there is a general food store, post office, petrol forecourt, chemist as well as a gift and craft shop.

There are buses to and from Stornoway that will take you to the far reaches of the east side as well as the rest of Lewis.
